USB not working ... pls help
I have several problems in getting my computer set up with all its peripherals working 100%. The computer is a Compaq Presario SR1990AN based on an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+.
I've searched the forums for a similar problem and I didn't find any. Therefore I've opened this thread.
My major problem is that USB is not properly configured. None of my USB external devices is working (the HP printer doesn't work, my external USB enclosure doesn't work etc).
For the printer, I've installed through Yast the HPLIP library. Installation successful, but no printer detected. At that point I realized the USB is not properly installed.
I've googled and found out a lot of people have similar problems with their HP computers (Compaq , HP - same thing) but no solution ...
Can anyone help me with this?

I ran 'lsusb -v' as root but no output is generated

Finally, I solved this problem.

What I've done, so maybe others will solve their similar issues:
Reboot computer, and go to BIOS. Look for the setting "Plug & Play Operating System". If it is set to "Yes" or "PnP OS", then set it to "No". If it is set "Non PnP OS" then set it to "Yes".
In my case it was set to "Yes" so I set it to "No". After logging into Suse, all my USB devices were working: the external USB enclosure was auto mounted when I insterted a DVD in it, the printer has been recognized and after configuring it I was able to print and so on.
For more info about this solution have a look at this SDB:Problems Caused by the BIOS Option "PnP OS" - openSUSE
