    nVidia kernel module problem

I am having trouble getting the nVidia kernel module to work. I have installed the packages x11-video-nvidia and nvidia-gfx-kmp-default. I stopped x, then started it again. Instead of getting the nvidia splash screen, got a message saying the modules.dep couldn't be found. I ran depmod-a, and then typed startx again. I then got an error saying:
    Code:
FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6.18.2-34-default/updates/nvidia.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesh)

(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to loade the NVIDIA kernel module!
    What can I do?

Have you install the nvidia module from the nvidia site ? it seems that everything is ok unless you don't have the driver yet.
Linux is not only an operating system, it's a philosophy.
    Archost.
