wireless network help
hi, i am having problems getting my wireless card to work with suse 10.1, i have sucessfuly installed the system and it is working fine, but i cant get my wireless network card;8482-WD ORiNOCO 11a/b/g (witch is installed and the driver was installed by suse). but i cant get any connection, (probabily because i have never used the wireless-aspect of suse) can sombody please help me i need to use my internet (my neighbors let me use their computer
)
Please ignore my bad spelling,,,
oh ya, system specs.:
processor: intel pentium 4 HT at 3.00 GHz
ram: 1024 mb DDR ram
wireless card 8482-WD ORiNOCO 11a/b/g
thats all i can remember, i cant check because im on my neighbors computer....
again, please ignore my bad spelling..
so sum it all up, i have suse 10.1 installed and i have no clue how to use my wireless card in suse (witch is picked up by suse and the driver is installed), i have some linux knowlage (but im still a newbie).
EDIT:
when i run ifconfig (/sbin/ifconfig) i get:
eth0 (INFO) (NOT MY WIRELESS CARD INFORMATION)
lo (INFO) (NOT MY WIRELESS CARD INFORMATION)
do i need to add my card to somthing ?? i have never relly used this area of linux (because i have never had a hardware problem)

I think what you need to do is, ID the chipset first, with the lspci command.
lspci -v
Then after that, decide which driver you need. You might not need to download anything, but it's always better to be safe when messing with these things. After you know the chipset then you can check these links, to see if your chipset is supported.
Compatibility - MadWifi - Trac
NDISwrapper
If you want, just post back here with the output of lspci and we'll help ID it.I do not respond to private messages asking for Linux help, Please keep it on the forums only.

output: luke@linux-fa0e:~> ispci -v
bash: ispci: command not found
i already know the chipset tho and it is installed in suse.
when i open yast -> ener password -> system -> network card -> user controlled with networkmanager -> i get:
name____________________________|IP address
INTEL 865PERL mainboard_____________DHCP
W-LAN cards useing direct pci interface___DHCP
sorry for the underscores, my little ASCII table didnt work with spaces.. :P
i select the W-LAN one, click edit -> advanced in the hernal module frame it has: hardware config name : 8482-WD (my device model) module name : orinoco_pci (my device)
i just dont know if i have set it up right... do i need to register it into somthing to connect to a wireless network? (i have only used suse with non-wireless internet, and i used ubuntu once with wireless but iw worked with no hastle...
anyway, i dont know what else to say, thanks for your reply
am i doing this right?
EDIT:
im keeping myself entertained by playing SuperTux
i really need internet...
and my neighbor really needs his laptop back
EDIT AGAIN:
i dont have time for hardware problems, im going to go put ubuntu back on.
