Wireless Help!!!
Hi everyone,
I have a Broadcom bcm4303 Rev. 2 802.11b wireless controller on my HP Compaq nx9010 laptop. I did following:
1. fisrt i tried using the kernel module bcm43xx for my controller, so got the sp30379.exe from hp website, used cabextract to extract the files, then used bcm43xx-fwcutter to extract the firmware files from bcmwl5.sys, then since the install_bcm43xx... script didnt run on my system, as software management is giving proxy error (i posted that problem too earlier here!) so i opened the script and since it was copying the *fw files to /lib/firmware, i did that manually and then did modprobe bcm43xx. After rebooting i checked the bcm43xx for operation and dmegs suggested that radio was turned on, after which i configured the card using yast and used ifup for i/f configuration. Upon turning the wlan on, it connected on 1Mbps and DID NOT ping anything.
2. after trying the wl_apasta driver too, i got tired and thought of giving ndiswrapper another try (i have successfully used it on my desktop having a D-LInk GWL 520+ card containg a broadcom chip!). so i removed the bcm43xx module as per the steps given in here: SDB:Broadcom (BCM4306) WLAN Installation under SUSE - openSUSE and aditionally deleted the *fw files from /lib/firmware. And now i started using NetworkManager (Since i used it in my Desktop also) and with ifup turning on the wireless interface is not very easy. So after everything done, the wireless is now connected at 11Mbps (yes, thats the speed of 802.11b). and iwconfig shows everything in order, like after connection it says link quality 100/100. BUT STILL NO PING
please help me!!!
