IP address mapping - DNS setup

    Hi All,

I am able to ping, upload and download from my FTP server (Linux OS) (domain name registered through GODADDY) by IP address but when I tried through host address (domain name) its not able to connect at all. It's been more than 48 hours I registered with GODADDY. Do I have to be running a webserver in order access my FTP server through domain name? What am I missing here...I used default name servers given by GODADDY.

    Pardon my ignorance.....

    thanks for your time...

try to resolve your registered hostname with one of these:

    nslookup hostname
    host hostname
    ping hostname
If none of these resolve your hostname to an IP address, then it hasn't worked through the system to your DNS servers yet.
