    Suse v10 and USER modem

    Is there anyone out there who is familiar with Suse v10.0 and how to get that OS to recognize the on-board modem when attempting to access it as a USER?

    The dialer being used is KPPP.

    I can get it to access the modem while in ROOT and it works perfectly - but NOT when I try to access it as a USER!

    I've gone over and over the settings as applicable to a USER and to my knowlege I've tried every setting "in the book" and except for the fact that I can get it to work while in ROOT, I would say the software offered by Suse and/or KPPP is defective but I just don't believe that the people at either of those well established software firms would be dumb enough to offer such basic software - which they knew does not work.

    The odds are that there is something I'm doing, have done wrong or haven't done yet; i.e., if it works with ROOT but not as a USER, there has to be a setting(s) I've over looked.

    Be sure that the user is a member of the dialout group

    There are a few things that you'll probably have to do,to start make yourself a member of the uucp group

    Then in a konsole......su to root and type
    Code:
     chmod u+s /usr/bin/rfcomm

    The user will need read, write and execute permission in:
    kppp and /etc/resolv.conf

    And the user set uid box should be checked in;
    opt/kde3/bin/kppp

    see if you get the problem then.
