Problem with "Old World" PPC and openSUSE 10.2

    Hello,

I am trying to install openSUSE 10.2 onto a Power Macintosh 5500/250. I used BootX with OS 9 to boot into the first installation CD, but the problem I ran into was that there isn't enough memory on the system (64MB) to run yast. It asks for a swap partition in order to continue.

So, I need a boot disk that I can boot into in order to partition and format the hard drive. I am more than sure that I can do this with the openSUSE install CDs, but I haven't been able to figure it out. I read on the openSUSE website that I should use install CD 1 to go into the rescue console, but at no point do I get an option to select a rescue mode. If anybody could help me out I would be very grateful.

    Thanks.

I haven't used SuSE for a long time now, but I do remember that there was "Rescue" option (along with the "Install" and others) when you boot the first CD. Anyway, one thing you could try is download the PPC version of Debian "netinst" or "business card" CD and use that to partition the drive.

    Thanks

That did it. I was able to use the Debian netinst disk to set up the swap space.

    Thanks!

    You are welcome!

Just curious how the rest of the installation went, in particular if the boot loader works. Last time I tried that, it was still SuSE 10 RC and I had to install yaboot from Debian to boot the system.
