hi
i have upgraded to kernel 2.6.21.5 on opensuse, however there seems to be something wrong with the firewall. When i start the firewall :
rcSuSEfirewall2 start
it outputs the following error:

i downloaded, compiled and installed the kernel from The Linux Kernel Archives
Everything seems to be working fine so far except for the firewall.
By the way i am quite new to linux and like to know how to upgrade
kernel through YAST but can't find good sources of information to do that.

Type kernel in to the search box in
Yast-Software-Software Management
Upgrading a kernel outside the distro is a hit and miss situation. You really need to know what you are doing. Is there a reason for this?

The search box only gives me the kernel source for the distro, how do i get a more current kernel?
i couldn't get the built-in sound card on my motherboard to work using the kernel supplied by the distro (opensuse 10.1) until i upgraded it.

Odd maybe you don't have the right repository.
I use smart to update now and it does list the kernels
ftp ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/update/10.1/
2.6.16.27-0.9 seems to be the latest available from suse
The trouble is since you have moved past the current Suse supported kernel there won't be a Suse supported firewall (in this case) package that works with it. The only solution I know other then droping back to the older kernel is to install a new version of the firewall or some other firewall. This of course moves you further from the Suse base.

i have installed smart and tried to include the channel information (ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/update/10.1/) but it showed error,
did i miss out something? I would like to know the correct way of including
the channel information.
