    Audio Problem

    Hi,
1)I'm having troubles with the audio. I need to use win movie maker on the virtual machine but as I try to open it, it says "impossible to open wmm. impossible to find the required audio hardware". Actually I tried to listen to some audio on kde, but it has problems, the sound is not clear. Can anybody help me on this?

2)And does anybody know a linux program doing the same as win movie maker? i just need to build a movie from a sequence of images. kino can't do that.
    thanks

Do you get any sound from the Windows VM? ie startup etc. When you installed Windows did you

    1) enable the sound?
    2) install the Vmware tools?

Is the little speaker icon in the bottom right x'd out?

Vmware uses the OSS sound which is the old original sound system in Linux. There may be problems if some other app is trying to use the sound at the same time.

Linux (for the most part) now uses the alsa system. You need to make sure that the sound is working in Linux before you try in the VM.

Have you initialized the sound card in Yast? Be sure to run the advanced option and test the sound.

It is possible that the application tries to go direct to the hardware in which case it will not work.

    Thanks! it works now...
I followed your instructions on windows, I correctly installed the audio and now win movie maker works.
Anyway I still have troubles in linux sound system: when i test the sound in yast it is very disturbed, and if i try to listen to any audio i just can hear background noise and not the exact sound.

You might see if following these instructions help

SMART Package Manager - SUSE Wiki

Note you did not say what version of Suse the link above has links for all the current 10.x versions please be sure you follow the instructions for your version!

    Did the initialize through Yast?

You also may try alsaconfig via a console as root after you do the procedures in the above link. Sometimes that helps

Also google for Linux + your sound card to see if you can find others with the same problem.
