its a BUG in kernel 2.4.x.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

@devils_casper:
We are using Kernel 2.4.21-138.
From where do you know that this is a bug?

check this Linux-PowerEdge Mailing list. i had two servers having 2.4.x kernel and was getting same error.
i upgraded all servers to Debian Stable now.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
