    Nevertheless the system is running without any problems but it would be

    is it a fresh installation? post the output of 'uname -a' command.
    its a BUG in kernel 2.4.x.
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    We are using Kernel 2.4.21-138.
    From where do you know that this is a bug?

    check this Linux-PowerEdge Mailing list. i had two servers having 2.4.x kernel and was getting same error.
    i upgraded all servers to Debian Stable now.
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
