OpenSUSE 10.2 no sound
OK... I have OpenSUSE 10.2 installed and I can't hear any sound. So... I went to YAST, went to Hardware then Sound, and deleted the card then restarted. After restarting I went back and edited the entry there (it still had it recorded that I had the hardware, but it was marked as Not Configured). After configuring it I could hear sound, but the sound icon was not in the System Tray. However, when I reboot the sound icon comes back, but I am once again not able to hear any sound.
I have been trying the different versions of Linux, Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, and have found that I like Suse best, but this no sound thing is killing me...

1) you can restart the volume control by going to
menu-multimedia-volume control-kmix
2) be sure that the volume is turned up. Also go to the mixer and be sure that the master volume control is turned on.

OK... it is fixed now but it makes no sense. I just removed and re-added it several times, and then restarted a few times, and now it is just playing sound when I tried to play it. Go figure...

Actually in a round about way it does. When you restarted the sound card it shutdown the mixer, then you rebooted but the mixer was not there so when you came back kde thought. "There was no mixer when I shut down so I won't start one"
Now without the mixer there was no sound.
