How to open a port for azureus

    Hi all,
I am using OpenSuse 10.2 . I am using azurues as my bittorrent client. For it to function properly (both download and seed) I am asked to open a port for both TCP and UDP. So I chose XXXXX port for it. Following is what I have done for opening the port,

    • Open yast -> Security and users -> Firewall
    • Clicked on "Allowed services"
    • Selected "external zone" and clicked on "advanced"
    • In the options i entered XXXXX port both in TCP and UDP port and closed it.
    • Then clicked on "next" and accepted the settings.

The selected port is not associated with any other application or anything. I checked it by switching off the firewall and doing the NAT/Firewall test in azurues with that port. One more thing to add is my download works fine but I am not able to seed.

So, basically i'd like to know whether what i've done is correct? If correct, then why am I getting NAT unreachability problem once when i restart azureus?

I am kind of lost Is it something i've done wrong with firewall configuration or is it something with azurues ...

NAT problems are not in the realm of the firewall, but rather port forwarding from your router.

External traffic can not tunnel back from your router to your PC so only outbound connections are working. Check out PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall for a tutorial on port forwarding for your router.

Thanks a lot for the information...

I am not sure whether this is a right forum to ask, but can't help controlling the curiosity.
My notebook is dual boot and other one is WinXp (home) . Things are working fine in it without any problem. Any logical explanations by anybody for this?

I just read that first post again. Why did you close the ports again?

I am not closing. Sorry my sentence construction was bad at that point.

In the options i entered XXXXX port both in TCP and UDP port and closed it.
What i had mentioned is closing the "options box" and not the ports... Hope it makes clear...

Are you using the same ports in Azureus in both Windows and Linux? Try forwarding the ports back, run the NAT test and then if it fails try the NAT test with the firewall (temporarily) turned off.
