Suse10.1. Cannot ping router
I am setting up Suse 10.1 - the Suse is loaded and all the off-line applications work but I am unable to establish a connection with my home router. I have three Windows PCs that work off the router and so I know the network works.
The Suse is set to DHCP but does not obtain an IP address from the router. The network cable has been swapped with a known working one and the leds are lit on both the network card and the router.
I have tried setting a static IP address, 192.168.2.37 with a 255.255.255.0 mask and the default gateway to 192.168.2.1 - when I do this, I can ping the Linux machine from another PC on the network but still can't ping the router (or anything else) from the Linux machine. However, I can ping the network card 127.0.0.1 and 192.168.2.37 from the Linux machine.
I have run out of ideas. Can anyone help?

Can any other machine ping ur router? If yes check if your router's firewall is blocking the particular IP address u assigned urself.

Ping my router?
No, I cannot ping my router. The furthest I can get is the network card of the Linux machine, 127.0.0.1 and the static address of this machine, 192.168.2.37
Incidentally, the Linux machine firewall has been switched off.

I am not talking of ur computer's firewall but about the firewall of ur router. Open the page http://192.168.1.1 and look at the settings there.

I checked the firewall although I didn't think it would be a problem as my other three PCs on the network connect through it.
However, whilst I was checking, I remembered that I have the router set up for MAC address filtering and realised I'd forgotten to add the Linux machine to the list. That was the problem. I have added the new machine and it works now.
Thank you ver much for your help.
Terry.
