    What is your hardware?

    Why such an old version.

Have you checked that the volume mixer is set correctly and turned up

Do you get any sound if you set up your sound card in Yast?

Well I have no experience with 9.x but you may try alsaconf as root and see if that works. That assumes alsa is installed.

Your hardware might be too new for SUSE 9.3. I would definitley recommend getting a newer distro. SUSE 10.2 is very good.

In the meantime check that the option for "External Amplifier" is set to on in the sound mixer application you are using (kmix or gnome-volume-control).

I agree with bigtomrodney... it is time for you to move to a newer distro. Did you know that security support for 9.3 has officially ended? Look here:

[opensuse-announce] SUSE Linux 9.3 security support is now discontinued.
