    Optimizing Dell Laptop's "extra buttons"

    I'm running SuSE 10.1 on a Dell Latitude D800. I use Gnome.

There are these 3 extra buttons on my laptop: Volume Up, Volume Down, and Mute.

I use an app called "keytouch", and it configures my "extra" buttons just great! However, whenever I reboot the laptop, the settings from keytouch are not saved. This forces me to open up keytouch again, and click on the "apply" button (in the keytouch application window).

How can I make it so that these keytouch settings are automatically defaulted when I restart my computer?

    Thanks,
    Eugene

You don't need to use any extra applications. Generally speaking you should change your keyboard type to "Trust Wireless Keyboard Classic" in YaST. This is the most generic keyboard layout and covers every dell laptop I've ever tried.

After you have done that go to gnome-control-center and go to the Shortcuts section. You can set your multimedia keys there.

In fact you can set them in gnome-control-center straight away but it will only be for your user. Setting it in YaST > Keyboard makes it system wide for all users.
