    screen resolution in consoles

I installed openSuse 10.2 just fine. I have my screen resulution in the GUI (Gnome) set fine. My problem is the resolution when I switch to the consoles (i.e. Ctl+Alt+2). The font is so small it's barely readable and the screne is shoved over to the left so far I can't see the first couple of characters.

So, how do I change the screen resolution for the consoles?

    Thanks

log in as root and open /boot/grub/menu.lst file. delete 'vga=xxxxxx' parameter from kernel line, save file and reboot.
you can try other vga modes and check what is suitable for you. vga=773 works better in my machine.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    Talking Solved!

Thanks! I didn't delete the "vga=" setting but your response did give me a clue to do some more checking. I found this useful article that shows the various "vga=" settings:

    AntLinux Wiki - HowTos/VgaModes

My menu.lst setting was "vga=0x31a" which translates to a 1280x1024 resolution. I changed it to "vga=0x318" which gets me down to 1024x768. Rebooted and now the console screens are just fine.

    Thanks again!
