9.2 live cd making wireless work.

    I have run 9.2 livecd.

I am happy that everything seems to be detected fine.

It has found my wireless card.

How do I setup the connection with the router now?

I cannot find anything in YAST to allow me to setup the wireless router configuration aka SSID and WEP KEY

    Thanks
    James

Im not all smart about how a live cd works but i dont think you can do anything in Yast and have it save. Why are you using a live cd? and using a live cd why suse 9.2? i had 9.3 installed on my pc but it was very old! i think its time for you to have a new version. 10.2 works great. there are still some problems like cant listen to mp3s unless you do some work.

Suse is one of the few distros, actually the only one that I am aware of, that has a different definition of what a livecd is.
they consider a livecd to be the equivalent of an evaluation cd, still has to be installed to the hd though.
But, yes 9,2 is very old.
I remember when I first joined.
Everybody couldn't wait to get 9.2, that seems like a long time ago.

What kind of wireless card do you have?

OK, well I am not really into having a debate as to how old it is, because it detects everything on my machine, boots up flawlessly and I can save settings to a USB pen or floppy or whatever I want.. and I dont have to do a full install.

Anyway.. It is an Altheros Super G card... Suse found the card no issues. I just need to know how to configue it so I can connect to my wireless router.

    Thanks

    Post Wireless card

I don't have a wireless card set up at the Moment. I am wired up to my wireless router. See i control the router through out the house. Its best to control the router from a wired connection.

Go to Yast, Network Devices, Network Card, Click on your card and it should set up.

I have found the extended part to enter the values.. and I have done that.. but there does not seem to be any way to test if the connection is alive except to keep opening a webbrowser and see if it works... does this sound right??

Yes but i am still saying that Suse 9.2 was not greatly set up for Wireless Internet.
I have no experience with anything under 9.3.
