something about the clock speed or just displays a load of pci settings.
tried the acpi_pm_good thing, how are you supposed to make that work??
I thought this was supposed to be easy!!!!!

Normally it is easy.

Where did you get the CD/DVD. If you downloaded and burned it, did you check the CRC value of the downloaded ISO and did you burn at the lowest speed possible. Also are you installing dual boot? ie does the machine have Windows on it. If so did you resize the Windows partition to free up space to put Linux (10 Gig min.)

Installation Problems
I git the CD's from thelinuxshop.co.uk so should be ok
It has windows on it already so dual boot, printer not compatible with linux so i need it until my printer dies.
The only thing is i haven't resized my hard disk.
Cheers
I'll resize it and then try again, do you recomend the installation acpi=off?

Really depends on the machine and its support of acpi. Normally you try without changing anything. Then if there are problems start trying the switches. The acpi switch is one that causes most problems ergo if you have install problems it is the first to be recommended turned off. acpi is the power interface and it seems many manufacturers botch the standard.
Good luck

Some luck
No end of problems with getting my disk partitioned, but finally did it and had to install an old suse 9.1 from dvd i found, couldn't get 10.2 to work at all.(what a shame as i was really looking forward to it)
How easy is it to upgrade to suse 10.2? and how do i do it from linux side as my windows isn't having any of it?

10.2 upgrades
If 10.2 won't install "standalone", the odds that it will work via an upgrade from an old-9.1 are not great. The same problem could come back.
Can you shed some more light on what the problem was with the 10.2 install ? Maybe it is something that is very common, and we can tell you how to work around it.

10.2 install problem
After i partitioned the hard drive i tried the 10.2 cds and opted for installation acpi=off.
it started with pci port listings and then hung.
The 9.1 dvd worked great, as expected
