Newbie: Problem met when upgrading kernel
Hi
I installed SLED 10 on my notebook (chipset: ATI Xpress 1270). The audio device (Sigmatel STAC 92XX), NIC (Broadcom B57XX) cannot be recognized and installed correctly. However, it is strange that the same device with Intel GM945 chipset can be recognized and configured correctly using the same distribution.
I downloaded and installed the driver for integrated graphic driver and NIC driver, but I cannot find driver for STAC 92XX. I checked on the GM945 system and found that the sound card is stated as "Intel ICH6 XXXXX Device" (or something like that), so, is it because the south bridge my notebook used could not be recognized, then the audio device cannot be configured correctly?
Then I downloaded the lates kernel 2.6.22 (it is said to be able to support SB600 southbridge for XPress 1270), but I failed to install it (It is not a upgrade patch) following Chapter 29 of SuSE 10 Linux Bible, and I had to re-install OS. I wonder if I missed some key steps.
I heard that the upgrade package is a rpm file, where can I get it?
Thanks in advance.
