CD-Rom drive speed when ripping seems slow

    hello, first time here.

I started using suse in these days for the first time, and since I feel this OS suitable for me I decided to keep it running on my computer. Then I let my computer ripping audio CDs in the pc, but I noticed that speed of ripping of a single CD was so slow. I've tried to configure it with eject command (eject -x speed) and it has seemed that was done, but I doubt it because there's no change. Also I used "set cd-rom speed" to configure, but the drive itself wasn't detected there. My computer is Thinkpad T42 (IBM, Lenovo), and when OS of the computer was windows, the drive speed could be configured with a tool provided by the vendor.

Here's the information of the drive:

    Bus: IDE
    Class (spec): CD-ROM
    Class: Mass storage device
    Device Name: /dev/hdc
Device Numvers: Major 22, Minor 0, Range 1, Type b
    Device: UJDA755yDVD/CDRW (Matsushita)
    Driver: PIIX_IDE
    Interface: 3
    Revision: 1.72
    bus_hwcfg: ide
    driver_module: piix
    udi: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/storage_model_UJDA755yDVD/CDRW

    Could anyone give me tips?
    thanks,

The drive is reading data only ~600KB/sec . It seems something wrong.
