    Error Message on SuSe

I have been trying to get my drivers to work on SuSe linux, which requires uninstalled dependancies (kernel-source for my wi-fi driver and python-devel for my printer, at least). I have been going to YaST and using Software management, where an error message pops up. This error is :There was an error in installation source initialization.

cd:///?devices=/dev/hda/: Cannot create the installation source. Then, I click the appropriate dependancies, and click next, where the following error occurs: Insert SuSe Linux Enterprise Desktop CD 1, error is URL:cd:///?devices=/dev/hda, Failed to mount on Mounting media failed : cd:///?devices=/dev/hda. Then you can choose ok, abort, skip, eject. My copy of linux came with an instructional video and stuff so that might be getting in the way, but I inserted it and nothing happens (after I click okay). I click skip and the dependancies do not get uninstalled.

Yast can be a real pain sometimes. Here is a quick and dirty way around the problem.

Boot off your install disk. Select update you will at a certain point be asked what you want to install. Select the packages you need.

Second way Yast-Software-On Line Update Setup This will set you to an official Novel repository.

In Yast-Software-Installation sources you can set up URLs to repositories so you can get the package you need from the net. Here is a list

Additional YaST Package Repositories - openSUSE

    Doesn't Work

To your first solution, the options were too limiting to what I wanted or that step was skipped. To your second solution, neither python-devel or kernel-source exists on the list

Everything on the disk is available in the first solution.

Did you setup a on line update? All supported package are available through this.

Add additional repositories to add additional package for multimedia etc.

After you add the repositories and get a on line update URL you can go into Software managment and add any package.

For some reason Yast is having a problem with your CD/DVD So you need to work around the problem. You need the above in aanycase.
