    openSUSE 10.2

i am using openSUSE 10.2 and i hav two questions about it. i only know the basics in linux.
Firstly, is there any way to only login using the text login and not the gui login screen?

next, when SUSE loads, it takes a long time because it probes the ata1 and ata2 ports. Is there any way to stop it from doing this everytime it starts up?

    Thanks in advance!

If you don't want an X server running you can change /etc/inittab. Change the entry for initdefault from 5 to 3.

    Thanks! That Worked!

Now that brings up another problem though:
When i login with my username, and then type in startx, gnome starts up perfectly. When i press logout from the menu, it keeps saying "waiting for x server to shut down". I have to resort to powering off the computer and restarting it. Is there any way to fix this?

However, the X server ends properly when i do the same thing with the root account, instead of my user account.
    Thanks!
