Now having ATI driver install problem

I have done several installs of SUSE 10.2, as indicated in a prior thread. However now in my latest install I can't get the ATI drivers to install properly and as far as I know I'm doing everything just like I did before. I'm following the instructions from the driver website and I've since created a few virtual machines to try it on as well and it fails in every case. I made sure to try it under both Gnome and KDE.

    The instructions I am following:
    https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206...35.5-inst.html

Below I have replaced my username with the generic [username]:

    linux-98wr:/home/username # sh ./ati-driver-installer-8.35.5-x86.x86_64.run
    Created directory fglrx-install.fk4267
    Verifying archive integrity... All good.
    Uncompressing ATI Proprietary Linux Driver-8.35.5.......................................

    ATI Technologies Linux Driver Installer/Packager
    ==================================================
    Detected configuration:
    Architecture: i686 (32-bit)
    X Server: X.Org 7.1.x
    loki_setup: 2 Unable to find file 'install/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri/atiogl_a_dri.so' in '/home/username/fglrx-install.fk4267'
    Removing temporary directory: fglrx-install.fk4267
I think that the line in bold is the source of the problem.

When I get to step 7 under "Automatic Driver Installation Option" this is where there is a real failure.

    7. Launch the Terminal Application/Window and run /usr/X11R6/bin/aticonfig --initial to configure the driver.
The file aticonfig does not exist, so of course I get the message that no such file exists when I try to run this command.

The ATI Catalyst Control Center is installed, but it won't launch because aticonfig hasn't been run yet.

What I don't understand is that I installed this twice before with no problems. I have been downloading it from scratch with each install, so I thought that maybe there was a new version that is messed up or something, but that doesn't appear to be the case as indicated by the version info on the file.

    Any ideas?

I still haven't resolved this and it makes no sense as this same process has worked in the past. The error shows that the needed file is not in the archive itself, which I have no control over. What can be the issue here?
