Suse 11.4
On a user account, every time the screensaver kicks out, I get message saying system policies are preventing a program from retrieving brightness information and requiring the root password.
How do I fix this ?

In the image you supplied there's a button to reveal the details. Would you please click it and reveal the details, and post it here for us, the helpers?
Thanks!
Sorry. It appears to be a KDE request.

Sounds like a bug:
System policies prevent you from getting the brightness level (KDE)
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=269310
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=688267
Workaround (from novell) is to add the following to /etc/polkit-default-privs.local:
and run /sbin/set_polkit_default_privsCode:org.kde.powerdevil.backlighthelper.brightness yes:yes:yes
org.kde.powerdevil.backlighthelper.setbrightness yes:yes:yes
Thanks very much. I must admit to not having considered a bug, as it only happens in the user account and not in root, so I expected that if it were a bug it would have behaved the same in both.
That's why I was looking for a system setting somewhere.
Thanks again for your help.
