| pidgin starts, works 10 seconds. freezes. up until today pidgin worked fine for me. i started up my computer and started pidgin and it worked for about 9 seconds and then froze. tried again and again. same thing. tried removing pidgin and installing it again. same thing. it works if i type 'pidgin' into root terminal. i cannot think of anything i have done lately to screw this up... any help, ideas, or input would be wonderful as it is my most used app and i really miss using it. |

| Okay where might i find a system log for pidgin. i actualy tried loking for one last night and couldnt find one. i am in /var/log/syslog and their is nothing about pidgin mentioned. is their another place to look?
output of terminal as regular user. by now my pidgin has been frozen for almost a minute: Code: billy@Waffle:~$ pidgin
as you can see, it is giving me nothing. i am trying to give as much detail as i can so i figured i may add that the MINIMIZE, MAXIMIZE, and CLOSE buttons work. i can also RESIZE and when asking for my password, the text cursor appears over the password input field. it seems like it is having toriuble loading something maybe?
also. This was like a wek or two prior, but i had instaled the HUMAN pidgin theme.... it didnt start this freezing thing until a while after... biut you never know. to install it i pretty much just had to replace the visual aspects of aim but i did have to add a .gtkrc file to my home folder in order for the new background of my buddy list to appear. i have since then deleted that new .gtkrc file. if it matters, i am now using .gtkrc-1.2-gnome2: Code: # Autowritten by gnome-settings-daemon. Do not edit
include "/usr/share/themes/Raleigh/gtk/gtkrc"
include "/home/billy/.gtkrc.mine"
although i am not sure that explains why it would onyl work under root. permissions problem perhaps?
under root terminal, pidgin doesnt ask for my SN password because it is auto saved. it doesnt so thatunder regular user...
i dont know how i did it, but it took me a few tries, but i managed to open debug in the first attempt and in the second attempt i managed to copy and paste the output right before it freezes!! i edited my screen name out. Code: (18:45:47) account: Connecting to account SCREENNAME

| it seems to be working now. unfortunately i am not sure what i did that fixed it. it was one of the these two:
1. i uninstalled GIMMIE because i know that uses pidgin to gether up my buddly ist and such.
2. i deleted the plugin CURRENTTRACK. i figured maybe the problem lays with the fact that i had currenttrack set on AMAROK but i removed amarok recently while trying to resolve some kde issues |
