blender problems

Hi I am running Ubuntu Gusty Gibbon, I have a 3.00 Ghz processor, ati readon 9200 graphics card, 2.50 Gbs of Ram, I am trying to use blender but getting errors. i have searched google but have come up with nothing. Sometimes i get completly locked out and i have to hard boot. when i do get a error it says this
Quote:
the-wise-man@the-wise-man-desktop:~$ blender
guessing 'blender-bin' == '/usr/bin/blender-bin'
Compiled with Python version 2.5.1.
Checking for installed Python... got it!
Detected GL_ARB_texture_env_combine
Detected GL_ARB_texture_cube_map
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
I am not sure what i should do. i can't run blend files. and i cant open some of them. i know that there not corrupted because when i use windows they work. please don't make me have to use windows! Thanks in advance The-Wise-Man

Trial 1:

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

make sure the repositories are enabled

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install blender
sudo apt-get install yafray

Trial 2:

I think it's a video driver problem. My spider sense says this seems like something Beryl would yell at a person.
Try using the original xorg.conf file.

If it works using that resolution, then you know blender is not corrupt.
If the default settings are giving you problems, then change things in systems > administration > screens and graphics.

Also, if you have something like Beryl on, turn it off for the moment.

Try running blender after that.

Trial 3:

Uninstall blender
reinstall blender
try running it again
if that doesn't work, change the xorg.conf file to its original state.
Try running blender again

On another thought segmentation faults seem like something to do with RAM.
I'm not sure, though. See if you can find the most recent version of Blender.
As a last resulresort, turn to the Blender forums.

It could be a variety of things, but I suspect through some trial and error you can solve it.
