I will boot up ubuntu feisty fawn, i have the startx command problem to finish booting the system. Ive googled this problem for hours and have yet to find a solution for myself. I know i must go to System-Admin-Login Window and change the option of auto login or whatever. But the Login Window option is missing and i have no idea what to do. I have tried several different things that people have requested on random sites i have looked at, but something has yet to work. So my shut down/restart buttons are missing in the log off window.

I can't figure out what you're asking.

Are you saying the Login Window, which shows after starting the computer, isn't showing?

Are you saying the features of the Login Window, which show after starting the computer, aren't showing?

Are you saying that after using the Login Window and logging in, that you cannot see the GNOME GUI?

Are you saying the OS boots, stops booting, and doesn't bring you all the way to the Login Window?

Ok heres what exactly happens, ill boot up ubuntu. Still in a black screen and It will say
Starting up...
Loading, please wait...
kinit: name_to_dev_t(/dev/disk/by-uuid/c7c2ccbc-18c3-4137-9cb2-f5cc7220f73) = sda7(8,7)
kinit: trying to resume from /dev/disk/by-uuid/c7c2ccbc-18c3-4137-9cb2-f5cc7220f73
kinit: no resume image, doing normal boot...

Then i must type in my login in name and password, than i have to type in a command, 'startx' and it will finish booting up, this is all still in the black screen. Then it will go straight to my desktop.
After i am logged into my computer and i want to shut down, the shut down and restart options are missing.
