Angry E: nvidia-kernel-common: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit stat

I am having problems with Restricted Drivers Manager. I have installed and reinstalled this with the same results. I was trying to install a ATI driver and of cource it did not work. I have installed an ATI driver before but this is a newer card for me Radeon x1300 That will be another topic. The ATI driver topics are for an older ATI driver setup.

Any way to configure this file so i dont get this error message? Some command i must run in the terminal?

E: nvidia-kernel-common: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
E: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-14-386: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured

I'm confused. Do you currently have an ATI card or an Nvidia card? You're attempting to install Nvidia drivers, which will only work with an Nvidia card.

I have an ATI x1300 installed I don't know why nvidia messages keep coming up.

I have install the driver for my ATI card and also got the Catalyst to work. I was told the mesa should not be showing here instead it should say ATI but I have no idea how to change that maybe it's something in the xorg.config file.

Should i uninstall everything to do with nvidia using the Synaptic software manager?

That is correct. If your ATI drivers were properly installed you shouldn't see the Mesa GL line. Check your xorg.conf file and see if the driver for your card is "fglrx"; if not, there's your first problem.

Yes, I would say so. I don't know why anything Nvidia got installed unless your motherboard has an Nvidia chipset for your ethernet or harddrive controller.

TechieMoe I uninstalled both of these and the error messages went away (nvidia-kernel-common and
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-14-386) Thanks Does my xorg file seem ok?

This is my xorg file. Does it seem like there is something wrong here?

Nothing is jumping out at me, but it's been a while since I've configured an ATI card by hand. Hold on, perhaps someone else can contribute.
