For MSN there sis aMSN, this works even on Ubuntu 6.06.
For Sims, I do not know, try it with wine or ask it on the ubuntu-forums.

Pidgin is installed by default in Ubuntu and it can be used for MSN, YAHOO. ICQ, AIM etc.

You can do most things in Linux that you can do in Windows. However, it is generally a good idea to use the Linux equivalents to the Windows software running via Wine or Cedega. But the big problem, the big, big problem, is games I'm afraid. Although a lot of games do work, a lot won't, not without a lot of tweaking at least. I think you'll have a lot of trouble with Sims 2:accroding to Wine apps HQ, this game installs but won't run. The advise we usually give to gamers is to keep a Windows partition for games, and use Linux for everything else.

but isnt it pretty "tyring" for a computer to keep windows on 1 half of the HDD n linux on the other. maybe some details about my laptop would make it easier to reply to tht message. i have a fujitsu siemens laptop w 1.86 Ghz. 1024 DDR2 RAM, n my graphic card is not the best either. i think it would slow down my computer by a lot or wouldnt it? n well if i could install it but the sims wouldnt run the game all tht tweakin is a lot of work, a lot of work which im not able to do... i really dont want to use my windows anymore it is amazing how tired u can get of windows.....

I'm not sure what you mean. It's annoying to have to reboot your computer if you get the itch to play a MS Windows-only game, but it's much less annoying than not being able to play it at all because WINE doesn't yet support it.

Running a dual-boot system does not cause any extra stress on your computer. Both operating systems will perform just the same as if they were the only one on your box. While they are running they are unaware of each other's existence. We're not talking about running two operating systems simultaneously, we're talking about giving you the choice of running one or the other.

There is absolutely no problem in sharing OSs. I have known people who have as many as 10 different OSs on their computer! So long as there is enough memory (and you probably do) then you have nothing to worry about.

She's using XP....does partitioning work with Vista as well? I am running a Toshiba Sattelite with Vista Home Premium.

I hate windows and I've tried Ubuntu on the live cd and love it...however i really love my sims 2 games!
