I have a vista re-install CD from Dell. I will have to re-install it and it will kill this install of linux and then I would have to try and install again without screwing up Vista.
I would suggest to do that only.
Do post the output of sudo fdisk -l command after installing Vista.

okay will do after I get some sleep. So just run the reinstall disk and then give results of fdisk -l. Its not a typical Vista disk. Its a disk that sets the HD back to what it was when I first bought it I think.

okay I booted to the live CD since I was not given an option to boot to Linux after installing Vista. I resized the Vista partition to 147GB which leaves 79Gb I can give to my already 5GB Linux partition. Just gotta figure out how. anyways heres the fdisk -l

Device----Boot--start-----end-------blocks------id----system
/dev/sda1-- *------1------19207---154280196--7----ntfs
/dev/sda2-- --29642----29703---498015------82--Linux Swap/Solaris
/dev/sda3-- --29704----30394---5550457+--83--Linux

How much space you have assigned to /dev/sda2 and /dev/sda3?

I deleted the linux swap and ext and then installed Ubuntu again. Did a manual partition. I have 1Gb for the swap file and like 83Gb for the ext partition. I left 147 for Vista.

Yep! works great, just gotta figure out how to use Linux now. In college I installed Redhat using rawrite boot disk. I then made a NFS and a DNS. But that was a little while ago and everything the professor gave us was printed out so I did not have a book to keep.
