Smile Ubuntu vs Fedora Core

Hello,

I currently have Fedora Core 3 on my office machine (I know its an old version). I now have the option to upgrade to a latest (free) version of Linux ..... I can either upgrade to the latest version of Fedora Core or install Ubuntu (which was recommended by someone)
Can someone let me know which is better and more stable ... Fedora or Ubuntu?
Ur feedback and advice will be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi and Welcome !

I would suggest you to go for latest version of Ubuntu 8.04, due to release on 28th this month. Ubuntu 8.04 is LTS ( Long Term Support ) release and you wont have to upgrade system for long time.
Fedora has a short lifecycle ( 13 Months ) and you will have to upgrade it at regular intervals. Fedora is like a test-rat of RedHat.

To be frank with you, only you can decide which one is better for you, is you. Take both distros for a spin and then choose one that suites you best. Many people like Ubuntu because its a popular distro, thats easy for newbies to quickly pick up. Many like Fedora because its very innovative and bleeding edge.

I havn't used Fedora in over a year. I made the switch to Ubuntu. The support is second to none and the platform is very solid. I would also highly recommend the switch to Ubuntu 8.04.

Welcome to the forums!

Unfortunately, "better and more stable" depends upon the person and the hardware running each distribution. I personally don't like either of them much, although I do prefer Ubuntu over Fedora. The only way to know for sure which best suits your own personal tastes and hardware is to try both and then make up your own mind.

Best of luck with it.
