New DVD restrictions?

Hi All,

I just rented Ghost Rider (despite the fact I heard it's lame) and have found that it won't play in linux -- it will start but it's all messed up, random color lines, blocks of white, etc....is there some new format that sony has put out to infringe on our right to watch a dvd on an OS of choice? I have tried it on a Vista machine and my xbox 360 and both worked flawlessly. One more thing is that this is my second copy of Ghost Rider, thought the first was defective...

I have all the restricted things installed, can watch any other dvd....if Sony is doing this I'll stop suggesting their brand to friends and family.

Thanks all

Try Medibuntu

Over all Sony is not that friendly, may I recommend using the repositories from Medibuntu
Medibuntu :: Multimedia, Entertainment & Distractions In Ubuntu

Here is the proof from a previous scandal
Sony BMG CD copy prevention scandal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I rather not use Sony products.

what package would I want to download from that repo to be able to play Ghost Rider (or similar copyrighted stuff). I already have the non-free stuff installed and I have vlc, amarok, etc....I looked through the packages and couldn't see one in there that looked like it was made specifically for this kind of copyright.

Thanks

Instructions

Go to this section

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu

Under "Adding the Repositories" section pick your version of Ubuntu. Copy and paste the command for your version of Ubuntu.

Then install
sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2

I recommend rebooting.
