I had the same problem with totem when i first installed ubuntu. it works for me now, I'd try a different media player. I use either Rhythmbox or Amarok for music playback, and xine/totem for movies. Try the package xine-ui. also, make sure you definately have all the xine and gstreamer plugins. It really shoud work with those plugins.

Hi Luke

Thanks for your advice which I will take and let the forum know how I go. I was hoping to have a one stop shop for all media DVD and music but perhaps that was unrealistic. Do you know if Totem supports the playback of WMV files?

I have tried all of the above and more with my dvd playback. For some reason with mine it just freezes when I try to play a movie. Any Ideas?
