WvDial

I am on Ubuntu 8.04 and I have just managed to connect my laptop to the internet using my Nokia 6110 Navigator with wvdial.

My problem is I wanted to be able to use Synaptic manager to download packages as well but I can't. On the Synaptic Package Manager I went to Settings -> Preference -> Network, and I selected "Direct Connection to the Internet".

My question is, how do I set up my Synaptic Package Manager to connect to the internet when I am using my mobile phone as a modem?

I am sorry Casper for not responding in time because I got busy after posting the thread and now I am at work. So I am going to have to respond to you in about 8hrs time because I want to be in front of my laptop when I do.

I'll try that. But I think the last I tried to do a "sudo wget http://....." it just kept on trying to connect and reconnect and said something like "connection to the server could not be resolved", I am not really sure. But I'll paste the output once I get to run "apt-get update"

I got it.

I edited the file /etc/apt/apt.conf and changed Acquire::http::Proxy "http://10.135.220.74:3182" to Acquire::http::Proxy "false"
