No sound on Xubuntu Hardy

I just installed xubuntu hardy on my desktop system and it all installed fine but there is no sound.

I don't know what audio device I have but can someone please help me to get it working..........

What is the make and model of your sound card? First, from the command line, run:

sudo alsamixer
...and make sure your device is listed there and the volume is set at the correct level.

The device is there and I set all to full but still no luck

check you have all volume options turned up,on mine i have to have surround turned up even though i only have stereo
