Try to use force option.
Code:
sudo mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sda5 /windows/d -o defaults,force,umask=0

Thanks a lot. I went back to windows and did what you said. HOW DID YOU KNOW THE SYSTEM WAS NOT SHUT OFF CORRECTLY?

I went back to Ubuntu and did the steps. It worked after I re-started the system again. I tried few files and it worked. The only trouble I am having is with the pictures. I tried to save them under all different types of extension but no success. For others files it works well but not the pictures yet????

Thank you again for your rapid assistance.

Glad things are working ... have come across the issue with Windows not being shutdown properly before. Fixing this issue in Windows is the approach I would take to this.

Until the ntfs-3g driver became available Linux read/write access to ntfs partitions has be a problem, until fairly recently my approach has been to use fat32 rather than ntfs partitions for data storage/transfer/sharing with Windows (only started using ntfs-3g as a result of one of Devils Caspers posts ).
