Anyone ever get this

Flash player produces no sound in streaming videos. I tried gnash but it wont load it. Is this like a bug or something?

Yes. Quite a while ago.

If I remember correctly, the solution was to

Open a terminal

Type sudo apt-get update and press enter
Type sudo apt-get dist-upgrade and press enter

You will need to enter your password

Isn't this a bug with Ubuntu 8.04?

It's part of the move to Pulse Audio. It doesn't always happen but it is frustrating. To remedy this you can install libflashsupport. Either search for it in Synaptic Package Manager or run
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libflashsupport

Actually Flash has been crashing for me now more than in the past. To be fair it used to never crash on me. But now it's a 50/50 and it takes browser with it. So I hope that's not libflashsupport...

Do you know if this problem also affects other distros that don't use pulseaudio? Firefox has been crashing a lot recently on my computer, both in Debian and in Archlinux, and my wife keeps screaming: "What have you done to this bloody computer!"

I'm not sure...I was just guessing at the Pulse issue. It is really starting to frustrate me though. Especially since it will work when I reopen Firefox.

Yes, this sounds exactly like my problem. Sometimes Firefox will crash for no apparent reason, but when I start it again from the last page it works fine. I have heard that there are issues with Flash and Pulseaudio - to be precise I've heard that Flash videos have no sound (which seems to be the original poster's problem). However, I don't have Pulseaudio (yet) so perhaps this Firefox crashing issue is something else.

I used to have the no sound and flash crashing problem with Crux 2.3, Fedora Core 7 and Ubuntu 7.10. When I updated to kernel 2.6.23.1 in Crux 2.3, the problem went completely away with it but remained on the other boxes. Now that I'm using Crux 2.4 (2.6.25.3), the problem has returned! I also have the same problem on all mu *buntu 8.10 boxes. This problem is getting really old and annoying... Link
