Hi

Do you have an Internet connection? If so, it's all available on line - and it's guaranteed to be up-to-date.

OK, have you set up your repositories yet? If not, follow this procedure. Once done, you can download any software available on the DVDs via Synaptic. Let's say you want to download and install, I dunno, Scribus. Once you've enabled all the repositories (but not testing - leave this one as it could break your system) all you need to do is open Synaptic (Administration, Synaptic Package Manager) type in scribus and press enter. You'll be asked to confirm that you want to install, to which you reply yes, and off it goes...Scribus will be downloaded and installed in a snap. What's more, it'll be kept up to date automatically. Any software you download in this way will be safe (checked for viruses etc) and updates will be handled for you. Easy!
As for themes, take a look at this post.

PS - don't forget to disable the DVD as a software source. If you leave it, Ubuntu will always look for the DVD when you want to download something, which will lead to failures.
