Welcome to the community!
First you have to download the iso file from the Ubuntu website. This is an image of a CD. Now, once you download the ISO file, you need to get a program which burns ISOs. I know Nero has an option to burn disc images but I recommend ImgBurn if you are using Windows. It is a free program and it is excellent. Just open the program and select Burn CD Image then choose the ISO file. It will burn the CD. Once finished, reboot your computer with the CD in the drive. Your computer should start the live CD of Ubuntu. You will see the GNOME desktop if you downloaded Ubuntu (KDE with Kubuntu, XFCE with Xubuntu). From here, you should be able to follow this step-by-step guide explaining the installation process from the moment you are on the Live CD. InformIT: Installing Ubuntu > Step-by-Step Installation
If the computer does not automatically read the CD and boot straight into Windows, you may need to tweak with the BIOS. If you restart the computer, when the screen is all black and loading, it should say something like, "Press F12 to enter setup." Depending on the motherboard it may be a different key. Press that key. This will put you in the BIOS. There should be a tab or something about "Boot." Then there should be something about including the CD drive in the boot process. After you include the CD drive in the boot process, save the changes and the computer should automatically reboot.
I hope this helps. If it doesn't, feel free to ask more questions! I started using Ubuntu four years ago and at times I am still baffled by it but everyone here is really nice. Everyone here is willing to help!
