I don't suppose its possible to do any data recovery on deleted partitions?

One of the best tools for partition recovery is TestDisk:

TestDisk - CGSecurity

You can find it on lots of liveCDs such as the Parted Magic LiveCD.

Just to be sure, that is a lowercase L in fdisk -l not a 1 or is that just a typo on your part?

did type into terminal as lower case L
