Problem with windows going grey

I just installed ubuntu 9.10 last night (btw it looks pretty sweet) I'm a total noob when it comes to Linux. So when I'm using firefox the whole window will go grey sometimes and I can't do anything with it till it comes back out of the greyness lol. This usually only lasts for about 10 sec or so but still it's annoying.

I'm thinking Drivers or something of that sort but I'm not sure wondering if anyone else has run into this?

Compy:
intell core 2 duo 2.8Ghz
4GB of ram corsaire XMS
Nvidia 9800 gt 512mb of ram
Just throughing those up there I know I have enough power to run the OS but if you see that there would be any problems with any of that hardware let me know

this is rarely a drivers issue....although have you installed the nvidia driver ? if not go to system-> administration -> hardware drivers, and check the nvidia driver

the graying of the screen is basically a small freeze, almost like the hour glass in Windows. What sites are you going to that is causing this? Is it happening frequently on these sites or is it sporadic?

You might also want to try another browser to see if the problem continues, if it doesn't then it's a firefox issue and at least then it's pinpointed and can be a beginning to a solution.

It seems to happen sporadicly and quite often on any site really not anything specific I'll check out the drivers it's just the one the Ubuntu installed on it's own. and def. try another browser although I really like firefox and want it to work. also I get a lot of txt lag when I type in the browser as well.

you can always try one of the browsers that are based on Mozilla, such as sea monkey or galeon. Also chromium now has a daily build for Linux, it's not extremely stable yet but I've been using it for a couple weeks and it seems to be pretty solid

Send a message via Yahoo to devils casper
Execute this
Code:
grep -i driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Post output here.

Are you able to set highest supported display resolution?
