I already did. The other files in the directory are other versions, diffs (which are useless to a new install), checksums, changelogs, or other text files which do not contribute to the program builds. All that's needed is the latest version source code, which is those files I mentioned.
None of that answers where to put it.
If you go to Ubuntu's repository ( here) and download the libgtk2.0-dev and every other *-dev package listed as a requirement, you can install those .deb files in Ubuntu much more easily and they'll simply be placed where they need to go (full path names are in the packages). |
