Xubuntu - Not powering off on shutdown.
Ahh... it's been a while!
Anyhoo - I'm building up an old PC for a friend. The PCs hardware is quite old. I decided Xubuntu would be appropriate - works well! Currently the only issue I'm having with it is that it does not shut down correctly. The last message I receive is "System Halted!" which stays on screen while the rest of the system is unresponsive. Initially I thought this was an ACPI issue, I was told to add acpi=force and lapic to the boot options but unfortunately this has not fixed the error.
I'm really stumped with this issue. By coincidence I have a similar motherboard (May even be the same mobo) in a different PC which had the same issue but insisted that ACPI needed to be forced because the BIOS was older than 2000 (1997).
Because I'm stumped, have some output from various commands I've ran.

Yeah... I know that's a lot of dumping but I'm REALLY stuck with this one.Code:~$ sudo acpidump ACPI tables were not found. If you know location of RSD PTR table (from dmesg, etc), supply it with either --addr or -a option

Older systems don't deal with shutdown signals from Linux very well. It may be that the easiest solution is to use the power switch. Once the "System is hatled" message appears, all the file systems are unmounted so holding the power button down until it turns off physically won't do any damage to the OS.

Just to try. In Kernel line in /boot/grub/menu.lst. Try adding
to the end of kernel line in grub menu. Then reboot and shutdown and see if it shutsdown all the way. Won't hurt to add this to kernel line. I use it on my older gear.acpi=forceI refuse to let fear and fear of others rule my life. It puts my humanity at risk.

To quote an old friend, "Smeg!"...
You may be SOL, but as I said previously, once the system is "halted", you are safe to use the power button/switch to shut the machine off physically.
