First you have to unzip/unpack the file, in this case
bunzip2 filename.tar.bz2
Do this in a terminal window. Then after the file has uncompressed cd to the newly created folder. Once there type these commands.
./configure
make
su
make install
or
./configure
make && make install
To install the package you must be root. Don't worry you will be prompted for the root password.
Peace V

Heres your help
go to System, Administration, Users and Groups, put in your password, click on
root and click properties on the side, go down to Password and erase the password in User password & Confirm and put in whatever password you want to use to log in as root and there you go.
