SATA install problems
am trying to install the 64 bit version from the alternate cd.
The cd boots up fine. I then setup the installation to the point where it says that it is setting up the disk partitioner utility.
After that all i have is a blue screen with a grey strip at the bottom.
My sysem has 1 SATA drive that i am hoping to dual boot with windows.
If I can't get it to istall, does anyone think that i could connect it over to the IDE cable, install it, then switch it back over to the SATA?
Please Help!

Well I discovered that my harddrive doesn't have an IDE connection on it.
looks pretty much hopless as I have been having to install Ubuntu for about 2 weeks.
I am fed up with ubuntu, but not fed up with linux yet... Maybe I'll try Mepis or SUSE!!!

Installing Ubuntu on a SATA drive should really not be a problem at all. Did you make sure your SATA controller is rightly configured in the BIOS (set to "Enhanced Mode")? Are you using latest version of Ubuntu (6.06) ?

I am trying to install the Ubuntu 6.06. Could you elaborate on the bios configuration a little more? does it have to do with the DMA settings?

I found that the VIA VT8521 chipset doesn't work with SATA drives in Linux. I had to buy a small IDE drive to install onto. After install I was able to read and write the SATA drive. Hope this helps.
