New to ubuntu

Hey, sorry if this question seems simple but I did a quick search and couldn't find my exact situation and I want to make sure I don't accidently delete all my files.

Alright, I just deleted the distro I was previously using (I'm still VERY new to linux though) so now my HD is partitioned into a main windows partition, a smaller one i'm not sure what it is, and about 10 gb of unused space. I started to install ubuntu but I really dont know where to go there. There are three options and I KNOW I don't want the first option (just delete the whole hd).
The second option is something along the lines of use free space....I went to that at first but it seemed like it was going to write over the windows partition, or at least I was unsure enough to back out. I then tried to configure manually, but really could not get it to work.

Again, sorry if this is really simple, and im sure you guys get a lot of questions like this but I would really appreciate any help.

go to manual, delete the old partitions with the graphical boot config, and make some unused space. then hit back until you get those options again. hit config automatically with unused space. just keep going and it should work.

go for second option... it will install boot loader GRUB in the MBR of windows.... after installation, you will get GRUB screen.... having choice to boot up windows or Ubuntu... dual boot....
