Totem could not play 'dvd:///media/cdrom0'.

Code:
No URI handler implemented for "dvd".
What does this mean? I get it while trying to watch a movie...

Did you install the proper codecs to play DVDs ?

To install the codecs :

1) Make sure you enable the universe/multiverse repository :
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Re...dc17847d373096

2) Install the codecs :
Code:
sudo apt-get install libdvdnav4 libdvdplay0 libdvdread3
sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/examples/install-css.sh
3) Use totem-xine instead of the default "totem-gstreamer" :
Code:
sudo apt-get remove --purge totem totem-gstreamer
sudo apt-get install totem-xine
Now it should work.

SOmehow I had the bind9-host package installed rather than the host package.

Nevermind I figgured it out on my own.

Cool Dvd player will not play

Hi everyone, i have been doing what everyone does when you are new to linux ( ubuntu ) trying to play DVD's and i have tried everything and installed just about everything( libdvdcss, libdvdread, totem xine,xine-ui etc etc etc and it would appear that everyone else gets it up and running but for the life of me IT WILL NOT WORK . it plays DVDS that i have ordered from mail order ( not movies ) and plays CD's and stuff i have recorded but flat refuses to play anything like a DVD movie .This is the favorite error message that i get and yet i have this installed and have re-installed it many times without success ( The source seems encrypted, and can't be read. Are you trying to play an encrypted DVD without libdvdcss?)
Sorry i cannot even seem to highlight something in this system.
Does anyone have anything new to add ??????????
Anything is worth trying
Thanks Irv

Did you install libdvdcss?

You will find the file HERE

Once you download it: install it, restart your movie player and enjoy

Not sure why you are getting directed to download an .rpm file

I included the entire url as a non-link

You should be able to browse to this file
