Writing to a windows partition

Hello all,
I dual boot with kubuntu edgy and winxp. I would like to be able to most of my computing with kubuntu, but I am a student and for compatibility purposes need windows as well. I know open office is able to save in windows formats, but I would like to be able to write them to my windows partition.

How can I change the permissions on the winxp partition so that I can save files to it?

You can safely write on a Windows (NTFS) partition with ntfs-3g.

More info here :

Linux supports FAT32 read/write access and NTFS read access out of box.
if you have NTFS partition only, install ntfs-3g package to enable NTFS write access. which version of Ubuntu do you have?

EDIT: fast fast antidrugue and slow slow casper.

Yes, I have an ntfs partition and that would be the problem I suppose. I installed the ntfs-3g package with the adept package manager, but how do I use it to change the permissions on my winxp partition?

To answer the question about which version of Ubuntu I have. I have Kubuntu edgy with ubuntu kernel 2.6.17-10

Did you look at the link I gave you ? The answer is in there.

In bref, something like that would do :
Code:
sudo ntfs-3g /dev/hda1 /mnt/windows -o umask=0,nls=utf8
Given /dev/hda1 is your windows partition and /mnt/windows is the mount point. The parameter umask=0 takes care of permissions.

No problem, we are all here to help.

I understand that these things are not very limpid at first.
