After installing installing bcm43xx-fwcutter
i modprobe bcm43xx
and get the following results:

You can't get it to see your network? What are the results of
sudo iwlist eth1 scanTwo levels higher than a newb.
(I can search google)

To be perfectly honest, the native bcm43xx drivers are, at the moment, a bit ****. I'd recommend you go down the ndiswrapper route.
