According to menu.lst file, kernel has been upgraded from kernel 2.6.20-15-generic to kernel 2.6.20-16-generic.
Select Ubuntu kernel 2.6.20-15-generic title in GRUB Menu and check if Monitor Flickers. In case it works well, you have to re-install re-install nvidia driver for kernel 2.6.20-16-generic.

errors on reinstall of nvidia :(

For some reason I'm not remembering exactly how I installed my nvidia driver last time, I'm getting two separate errors depending on what I do. I've done the following:

tried installing in regular boot-> get a "you appear to be running x-server...."
went to prompt typed init 1 -> get another error (don't remember the exact one but it was something about recommending not doing it from that
relogged in to Gnome, prompted typed init 5 -> same error regarding x-server
typed init 1, from there typed init 5 -> same error above

I can't believe that I've forgotten how I installed it! Thanks for helping me

Boot up in Single User mode and try to re-install nvidia driver.
Highlight Ubuntu, Kernel 2.6.20.16-generic title in GRUB Menu and press 'e'. Select 'kernel' line, press 'e' again and add <space> single at the end of line and press 'Enter' key. Press 'b' .

no luck

Wouldn't install in that mode either, it said it couldn't run the package. I'm just going by the nvidia instructions of typing "sh PACKAGE_NAME" which is a .run file...

Error

The exact error is
sh: can't open NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9775-pkg1.run

I go to the directory that I have it saved in and it shows it when I type in "dir" but when I try to run it the way that you suggested it gives the above error. Any help would be appreciated, the blinking gets annoying often so reinstalling the driver would be a plus. Thanks all
